Love is a plan. Christians call what Jesus did for man the Plan Of Salvation. Love initiated it. God has a plan for each life; and fulfilling the plan is a choice. Who orders your steps? While I was a student in Massachusetts, I was befriended by William and Priscilla Simpkins. They provided spiritual nurture and love. Since I could never repay their kindness and love, Priscilla suggested that I pass it on. The debt of love to benefactors is immeasurable.
Love comes from the heart. During my final semester, I was among a group who attended a retreat at a mansion. There was a pipe organ; and although I was inexperienced with a pipe organ, I played it. While I was sitting on the bench, I felt elevated - like I was an organist at a country church. A few days later during a visitation, I was asked a simple question.
If dreams came true, what would you dream?
Love is a sacrifice. My response was a poem that expressed the desires of my heart. Although I received two job offers and could have remained in Massachusetts, I had to follow my heart. The choice to return to my homeland was influenced by love. Taking the road less travelled has not been financially rewarding; but there is joy in knowing that God orders my footsteps. Most of all, I have chosen His will and way for my life.
Love is the ultimate gift. After God gave His Son, Jesus the Christ, He did not stop His providence. There is no prejudice with God as the rain falls on the just and the unjust. God provides good and perfect gifts. Psalms 103: 1 - 3 generates food for thought.
Behold A New Thing is a summary of events spanning August to December 2002. Love for my students left me empty. However, during a dream several years ago, God showed me His provision. A queque or line twisted and turned then vanished into infinity. Love is action; and each being in a long white robe had a gift for me. This dream convinced me about the importance of stewardship: casting bread on the water, sowing seeds, giving even if it is a mite. Though some people feel compelled to give out of necessity, to avoid embarrassment or even to take advantage of loopholes, everyone who abides in God gives freely and cheerfully. Jesus commended the widow who gave a mite.
Love is God; God is love. Some years ago, I was listening to a visiting pastor. when God inspired me. The pastor spoke about a time in England when there was a financial lack. The churches had many gilded saints. Cromwell, according to the pastor, issued a simple command: Melt down the saints! What the pastor said after that is unknown as I began to scribble the lyrics to Melt Down the Saints on a tithe envelope.
Today, there are still gilded saints. They attend church and declare that they love God whom they cannot see. Do they love their neighbour?
Jesus needs people to obey His commands. There are many hungry sheep and lambs. Literacy is a priority to be done, not said. Will you be a reason the lambs are not fed?
